Amsterdam
Located in Netherlands, Amsterdam is one of most livable cities in the world. in fact, most Dutch cities are designed around the idea that you get around without a car by bicycles, walking, and public transit. However, it was not the case until 70s and 80s. Netherland were, just like every other country, designed for cars. It leaded to an unsafe condition for residents, and after the protests by people who were against car dependent infrastructure because of the number of children dying on roads, the Dutch government started to change the infrastructure of their cities to a much safer and bike-first panning one.
Now, because of the cycling road system in Amsterdam, a bike travels faster than a car and sometimes even faster than trains. Because cycling is fast, efficient, and safe way to get around, people of ten prioritize cycling to their work or school, and even kids can cycle safely. In Amsterdam, there 900,000 bikes which is more than number of the people in the city, and 60% of the trips are made by bikes. The flat city, infrastructure, and compactness of the city makes it ideal place for cycling. Therefore, Amsterdam is often referred as bike capital of the world.

However, for long trips people use trains, buses, and metro. Public transportation is reliable and efficient. For example, there 6 metro lines and 39 metro stations with 1-1,5 km distance between them, and frequency is 4-6 minutes in peak hours. However, there are no metros after 00:30, so they are replaced with night buses. Speaking of the buses, in the daytime they cover rural places which are not covered by trains, and the buses also connect nearby towns and cities. All of these allow smooth travel across the city and other cities nearby
